Ms Lucy gained a BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London, before completing a PGCE in Early Years and Primary Teaching at Bath Spa University. She has taught across a range of age groups, however her passion lies in Early Years where she believes in inspiring and igniting a child’s love of learning at the start of their school life.
Ms Lucy has experience supporting EAL students in the classroom and previously volunteered as an ESL tutor for teenage refugees in London. During her time in Sri Lanka,Ms Lucy also ran English lessons in local temples, schools, care homes, and hospitals.
Her knowledge and experience of SEND is similarly wide ranging having worked at an SEN youth club for two years and led therapeutic play sessions for children with autism, ADHD, and Down’s syndrome at her previous schools.
Prior to embarking on a career in teaching, Ms Lucy worked as a cabin crew for British Airways.
“There is nothing quite as rewarding as being able to inspire and ignite a child’s love of learning. I strongly believe that providing children with a stimulating and nurturing environment where they are encouraged to explore, express, and develop their own unique and individual personalities and learning styles will build a solid and lasting foundation for future success both inside and outside of school.
I hold an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Psychology which enabled me to work in two psychiatric facilities in Sri Lanka. My passion for supporting mental health shapes my teaching practice: I like to incorporate daily mindfulness-based practices into the school day to help children understand and manage their own behaviours, reactions, and emotions.
I grew up in the beautiful Welsh countryside where I spent my weekends hiking with my family. I recently walked the West Highland Way and I am looking forward to exploring the hiking trails across Thailand. In my previous schools I have been able to work alongside Forest School Practitioners and I regularly incorporate outdoor learning into my lesson plans.
I previously worked as cabin crew for British Airways. I was lucky enough to visit Bangkok on numerous occasions during this time and quickly fell in love with the diverse, welcoming, and lively culture, and of course the delicious food! My biggest travel goal is to visit Antarctica.”
