Extra-Curricular Activities and Trips

Additional Learning Opportunities

At The First and Future Steps learning extends beyond the classroom: school events, extra-curricular activities, visiting speakers, special topics, visits and trips all provide a wide range of experiences that support and enhance students’ learning.

Throughout the year we celebrate a variety of special days which includes International Week, Loy Krathong, Book Week, Christmas, Songkran and Lunar New Year, as well as our annual Sports Week which is always a highlight of the school calendar. Such days form an important part of our wider curriculum and ensure that pupils benefit from a wide range of opportunities and experiences.

“We believe that an all-round education should offer each child the opportunity to try as many activities as possible in order to develop varied and balanced interests in life”

Emma Mulligan – Head of School

Extra-Curricular Activities

An extended day is available to all of our students from Nursery upwards through a wide range of extra-curricular activities (ECAs) that are driven by the interests of the students and the staff. Our comprehensive ECA program includes music, sport, languages, technology, cookery and the creative arts; enabling our students to explore their imaginations and expand their horizons.

There are options for children to take part in Booster ECAs. These are designed specifically to help children with Phonics and Maths. We also offer ECAs with an academic focus such as Creative Writing and Poetry and there is also the chance to join French, German and Thai language ECAs.

STEAM subjects are offered for all age groups, from our Little Einstein Science Club to our Lego Engineering ECA. There are plenty of options to develop creativity through design and technology and exploring art techniques.

Sustainability plays a big part in our school and initiatives are led by the students through our Sustainability ECA. Students take charge of recycling campaigns, raising awareness throughout the community and leading change.

We also run a Swimming Squad, which offers the chance to compete in competitive swimming events with other schools in Bangkok.

School Trips

School trips form an integral part of the learning experience at FSB. Museums, parks and cultural sites all add an extra dimension to the children’s experiences. Excursions are carefully planned by teachers to enhance the topics that are taught. Trips may occur at the start of a topic, acting as an exciting introduction, or they may happen at the end of the topic to reinforce what has been discussed in class. All destinations are assessed for risks and parents and guardians may be invited on some occasions to help.

In KS2, residential trips are planned so that teachers and students can spend time overnight at various exciting destinations close to Bangkok. These trips offer a range of activities for children to help develop their teamwork, independence and resilience and are a crucial part of the school experience.
